TLV320AIC3104: TLV320AIC3104 - single ended line output

Part Number: TLV320AIC3104

Tool/software:

I am replacing an NRND audio codec with the TLV320AIC3104.

In my application, the old audio codec had a single ended line output for the left and right audio and is fed into a class D amplifier on another board.

The TLV320AIC3104 has a differential line output, and I want to confirm that I need a differential to single ended receiver before sending the audio to the existing class D amplifier on another board.

  • Hi,

I believe this device should be able to output single ended as well as differential output. However, differential output is essentially two single ended outputs with inverted phase, so the difference between the two outputs can be twice as large as the difference between one and the common mode, which would be what single ended output is. If you need a reference voltage, you could try psuedo-differential mode that the AIC3104 offers on the output drive, which would output the common mode on the other leg of the output amplifier. I think this conversion between differential and single ended may not be needed, and depends more on what voltage your amplifier needs to have its input around.

Let me know if you have more questions.

    Best,
    Mir
